Alumni stories

Hundreds of media professionals got their start at Temple’s student media outlets. Here are a few of their stories.

“The Temple News gave me the opportunity to grow as a journalist every day. The newsroom provided the perfect environment to understand what it takes to work on a deadline while building relationships on a beat. Covering the biggest sporting events in the city and working side-by-side with the top professionals in Philadelphia is training I couldn’t have received anywhere else as a young, aspiring, 20-year-old student. To this day, I still apply many of the same lessons I learned at The Temple News to what I do at ESPN.” – Kevin Nehandhi (1998), ESPN SportsCenter anchor.

“When I think about how crazy it is that I'm in the position I am right now and wonder how it happened, I sometimes think about The Temple News. When I first started writing for the paper's sports section, I was amazed at how professional the work environment was. I guess I wasn't too sure what to expect, but to enter an office full of motivated people was sort of inspiring in a way. To be able to hone my writing skills with people who knew what they were talking about and were motivated to succeed gave me a lot of confidence when branching out into professional writing. I'll always remember the Temple News for its passion in that way.” – Jeff Neiburg (2014), Philadelphia Daily News Flyers beat reporter.
