How To Apply

Apply using the Common Application. Learn more below about how to apply as a first-year, transfer or international applicant.
Fee: $55 (Fee waivers are available for freshmen who qualify.)

Once your Temple University application is on file, you can view additional audition or portfolio requirements.

Recommendation

Submit one letter of recommendation.

Standardized Test Scores

Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) or the Temple Option.
 

Transcripts

Submit your academic transcripts.
 

Composition Portfolio

There are no audition requirements for the Music Composition major. Applicants must submit a portfolio that includes a PDF of three original composition scores. All portfolios should be submitted via Acceptd. Recordings can supplement scores, but are not required.

Interview and Testing Information

Applicants who pass the prescreening requirements are invited for a live interview and portfolio review, as well as diagnostic and piano testing, with Boyer faculty members.

International Students

You are an international student if you hold or will need to obtain a nonimmigrant visa, including a student (F-1) or an exchange visitor (J-1) visa.

International students must submit either their TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum score of 79 on TOEFL iBT or 6.0 on IELTS is required for admission.

Tuition & Fees

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, this Bachelor of Music offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2025–2026 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $22,248.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $39,072.00 per credit
